Journal #1

The book my group has chosen is called the “Kaffir Boy” by Mark Mathabane. So far I am in a group that is hard working, and we had a good discussion for our 1st few chapters. I wish we had like a better organizer/way to keep things neat and tidy. We should be done with this book by 6 days before the due date to work on our other jobs. The book is good due to it having suspense and drama; which thrills me when I read a book. I hope this book has a happy ending. - D'Anthony R.

I feel that our group worked/works well. Everyone does all of their work and holds themselves accountable. The book is also really good and it caught my attention. Nia and I made the caparison that Kaffir Boy relates to The Power of One. Kaffir Boy just shows the apartheid side in the perspective of a black person growing up in South Africa. I also realized that the city of Alexandria is a shantytown for all people of color not just the Bantu or the black. I hope my group continues to work well together and that our project will be successful. - Sydney B.

Journal #2

Now in the book “Kaffir Boy”, the main character Johannes is about to go back into starvation. His family has been going to the dumps to get scraps of food from the white people’s food. Johannes witnesses a gay prostitution for food and money, but he was able to escape so he would not be raped/molested. Johannes and his mother are strongly thinking about converting to Christianity, but his father strongly disagrees with that. So there are some religious issues spurring within the household. - D'Anthony R.
